ABC Bottle Recycling

House Bill 1518 requires holders of certain Alcoholic Beverage Control permits to separate, store and recycle all recyclable beverage containers.  The main types of containers affected by the legislation are glass bottles, aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

OCS offers a single stream recycling program for ABC permit holders utilizing 64 gallon blue cart on wheels labeled RECYCLABLES ONLY serviced weekly.  Materials do not need to be separated which allows for more space, especially in establishments that have indoor space constraints or are located in downtown areas with little outside space.  Once recycled materials are removed from the regular waste stream it may be that the remaining waste is minimal and can allow for downsizing of trash cans.

Recycling Fact:  It takes at least 200 years for one aluminum can to break down in the ground.  Aluminum cans that are recycled are back on store shelves as new cans in less than 60 days.

Recycling Facts

Every ton of office paper recovered from our waste stream…

  • saves over 17 trees
  • saves 7,000 gallons of water
  • saves over 20 barrels of oil
  • saves 4,200 kilowatt hours of electricity
(enough energy to run the average household for over six months)
  • keeps 60 pounds of air pollution effluents out of the air
  • saves over 3 cubic yards of landfill space.

Additionally, each ton of paper produced from virgin fibers uses 2 ½ times more energy than producing it from recycled paper.  Recycled paper is also produced in a cleaner, less toxic process than non-recycled paper.
