Q. What is a compactor?
A. A compactor is a machine that pushes material into a container at pressures that squeeze or reduce the volume of the material.
Q. What kind of compaction ratios can I expect?
A. We estimate a 3 to 1 ratio for VIPs and a 4 to 1 ratio for other compactors. That means if you have an 8 yard being serviced five days a week with an estimated 100 pounds to the yard you are generating approximately 8.6 tons per month. Your service would be reduced from five trips weekly to one service per month.
Q. What are some of the benefits of compaction?
A. Compaction discourages scavengers, reduces collection costs, prevents windblown trash, stops pilferage and prevents unauthorized access to your trash. It also helps control odors and extends pavement life.
Q. Am I a candidate for compaction?
A. If you are spending $200 or more per month for waste services or are generating 30 to 50 loose cubic yards per week you may be a candidate for a VIP. If you are spending more than $400 per month for waste disposal and generating more than 50 loose cubic yards per week you may be a candidate for a larger compactor.
Q. If I decide to go with compaction what am I responsible for?
a. The customer needs to provide a dedicated 3-phase electrical system to a 3-phase fused disconnect located within 10 feet of the compactor power pack. The disconnect must be in sight of the compactor power pack. Additionally the compactor should sit on a concrete pad. The pad should be 6" thick and 10' wide, and 30' to 40' long depending on the model.
